What is CLAT?

Common Admission Law Test (CLAT), is an offline entrance exam test conducted across the country, for admissions into various law programs offered by top universities in India. The selection procedure of the students to these law colleges is based on their merit scores.

Latest Update: CLAT 2020 Registrations have begun on the official website from January 1, 2020. Candidates can fill CLAT application form till March 31, 2020. For this year, NUSRL Ranchi will conduct CLAt examination on May 10, 2020 across various cities in India.

Until 2018, this exam was conducted on a rotational basis by the National Law Colleges and NLU’s. But presently, the exam is conducted by a permanent authority based on the consortium of the NL.U’s.

The allotment of seats for the students in the law colleges is done according to the merit list of the CLAT entrance. Last year 2,820 seats were available for the undergraduate law programs and 755 seats were available for the postgraduate law programs.

This institution is the single-discipline university that provides aspirants with law degrees. The very first NLU was established in the year 1986 which was known as the National Law School of India University in Bangalore. Thereafter, many departments or branches of NLU’s are being established in different states of India. At present, there are 23 NLU’s across the country.

According to the UGC act, every institution or university that is being established should be under the central government or state government concerned. But the NLUs were established under the governance of the state government, still they are known as the National Law Universities whereas according to the UGC they are state-level universities for the law. But they are one of the best institutions to learn law in India. Also, they conduct entrance exams for the candidates who are seeking admission to these institutions.

National Law University (NLU’s) are one of the top institutions in the country which offers law programs in a professional platform. They are centralized law institutions that conduct an entrance exam for the candidates who are interested in the law firm.

There are several NLU’s accepting the CLAT scores for the UG/PG programs. The seats are allotted to the students on the basis of their merit scores.

NLSIU

NLSIU in Bangalore which was established in the year of 1986 is a recognized law institution in India. They accept the scores of the CLAT for both UG and PG programs. It offers the students with various courses like BA LLB, LL.M etc. and also provides the students with other important specializations on business law and human rights law. MPhil degree program with the provision of pursuing Master’s in public policy is also available in this institution.

NALSAR

NALSAR is a recognized institution of law established in the year of 1998 in Hyderabad. They also accept the scores of the CLAT entrance exam and allow the candidates for both the UG/PG programs.
